Brazilian-Canadian singer-songwriter, Fernie, is thrilled to announce a brand-new EP, Hopeless Dreams featuring Pain, available on February 14, 2025. Today, Fernie also unveils “Bones & All”, a hauntingly introspective new single. This track captures the EP’s exploration of navigating heartbreak and emotional struggle with both elegance and intensity, reflecting the signature grace and grit that define Fernie’s music. “The song generalizes the horrors of being in an abusive environment.” Fernie explains, “Do we truly know the deep psychological impact we place upon younger generations? If I had to explain this song in one sentence it would be, listen to your kids.”
This new collection of songs showcases Fernie’s fearless introspection as he delves into the darkest chapters of his past – from childhood trauma to tumultuous relationships. With a sound that pairs moving lyrics with stark simplicity, Fernie transforms personal struggles into powerful, universally resonant ballads on Hopeless Dreams. “These are my stories, our stories,” Fernie says. In 2021, the musician self-released his breakthrough project, Aurora. Hopeless Dreams is a “prequel” EP of sorts, “an A-side to Aurora’s B side,” he explains, exploring where Fernie came from and how these stories changed him. Across seven songs, “there’s no holding back,” he says, as Fernie confesses it all: honest, brutal, “but beautiful because it’s art.”
Last April, Fernie released his vulnerable ballad titled Pain, co-produced by fellow Montrealer Patrick Watson. The song has been the soundtrack to a performance by dancers Michael Dameski & Jasmine Mason Chung on socials. Two weeks ago, Fernie released an Unplugged Version of Pain, offering a soulful, intimate take on the original, watch Pain (Unplugged) here.
