Jesse Mac Cormack announces new EP, GRIP, out November 25

Multi-instrumentalist and producer Jesse Mac Cormack announces a brand-new EP titled GRIP, set to be released in digital format November 25th. Jesse Mac Cormack is having fun in a maximalist dimension on GRIP, as an indie electronic artist, lacing his musical identity with his latest electronic tastes. Today, he also shares a new single from the EP, “La Vérité” featuring both Toronto’s singer-songwriter Charlie Houston and French artist BRÖ. The single is available to stream now across all platforms.

GRIP” is the synthesis of his moldability and his willingness to wander. Working quietly and instinctively in his at-home studio, letting the process guide him into the right tangents, he crafts a bouncy setlist that urges the listener to momentarily fuse opposing intensities: head-on vulnerability, and soul-cruising escapism.

After Montreal-artist CRi became a frequent collaborator, Jesse reapproached his practice to be born again in what feels like a familiar genre. Surrendering the rock band aesthetic dotted with digital accents to fully embrace an infectious solo-at-the-decks performance.

GRIP” emanates the highs and lows that have come with all his recent realizations on self-growth inside a heartbreak. Turning his turmoil into fleshed out soundscapes, the physical and metaphorical grip we can have on one another is steeped in his musical universe.

La Vérité” is of a virtual quality, it asks you to feel it all for a last time with an invasive and up-tempo melody. The project is entrenched with memory while always stringing you forward into an effortless ebb. Looking to get out or go in deep, the two desires collide, and the tracks become a liminal ground capable of holding both desires.

Jesse explains that the lyrics “Je ne veux plus rien faire d’autre que te voir” encapsulate the dual sensation of intense fusion and vertigo at the start of a relationship. This declaration reflects a profound desire and complete focus on being with that special person, accompanied by a whirlwind of emotions.

As an acclaimed producer who has worked with several notorious Montreal-artists over the years including Helena Deland and Gabrielle Shonk, he continues to strengthen his technological wizardry while sculpting his personal palate. Heavily influenced by Caribou, Fourtet, Duskus, Weval — Jesse is seeing how everything he’s learned so far can be recontextualized in a wider and livelier frame, to get him closer to the sound that reels him into his highest alignment.
