Today Antoine Corriveau unveils “Quelqu’un”, a new song from his upcoming album to be released in 2020.
“Quelqu’un is the first song I wrote for the album. I wanted it to be a self-portrait, in a way. I had the feeling to have written a lot about the people around me and the world that I live in, but not much about who I am. I looked for a way to write about myself without being self-centred, which became the quest of the entire album.”
He goes on: “I remember the evening better than the day itself. It was summer, time flew by, I didn’t leave the studio all day, and I probably didn’t eat enough. I was going to meet Pietro at Jarry Park. On the way there, in my 2002 Corolla, I listened to the song I had just (almost) finished too often and too loud. It was called Quelqu’un, and I had recorded 3 or 4 guitar tracks for the climax. The kind of tone that you only get if the amp is close to feedback. I realized that this was the first time that I recorded a guitar in a studio that sounded like how I can play live. Too loud, a bit erratic, saturating the stage monitors but making me feel like I was doing the right thing at the right time. I’m about to release new songs, without knowing when I’ll be able to play them live. It’s bizarre and unprecedented, somewhat like that song was for me on that day in July 2019. These are the first words that came out for my new album. It was natural for them to be the first that I share with the world.”
